It all started exactly 2 months ago on the same date…1 st may 2021
I started to type…touch type to be precise.
Before that I use to ‘peck’ keyboard with my two fingers. with that my speed was around 30 wpm(words per minute)
So I came to know about this website called ‘Typing test.com’ without searching any other website for typing, i jumped into it.
Honestly i had no expectation from an online website that i can complete full blown course of typing on…but I started anyways.
My first test was horrible
I googled about average typing speed and felt sad about mine🤣
Decided to went back to pecking(typing with two fingers)…but I saw a lot of people on you tube talking about touch typing and how you can improve your typing speed a lot.
So i stick to all the lessons on this website called typing test and complete all the lessons…It barely took me two days to do all the lessons. Still have not touched numbers part though.
Surprisingly my typing speed after completion of all the tests was
I felt horrible at this point honestly.
People have an average of 40 wpm and me completing all the tests I could reach half of their speed.It was disturbing.
I searched on google how to double typing speed🤣because thats what I was upto an average typing speed.
That is when I learned about posture so called Ergonomics importance in typing.Also few other things like dont look at keyboard no matter what and how much ever you want to.
I implied all that and still I was under 25 wpm…with consistent practice for a week or so. I could see my hands moving on Keyboard fast but speed was the same…I was getting comfortable with the keyboard and started feeling for words than for letters at this point.
Although I was superslow I was typing without looking at keyboard so I felt like a Winner at this point.🏆
Still I had to improve on my speed.
So I did what i had to….I googled🤣
I came across few other websites for typing at this point called 10 fast finger and monkey type.
Both these websites look so userfriendly that i couldnt resist both.I started practicing randomly on both.
This was my first ever 10 fast finger score
In 10 fast finger I used to practice a lot…and I could se my improvement in wpm.They give you most commonly used 200 words in english to type…So its like..its obvious that u are going to improve but still this gives whole another satisfaction.
on 3 rd may…I reached speed 30 wpm
I started playing race on type racer after reaching 30…
I scored 36 wpm and finished first too😁…I was so happy🥳
On 4 may I crossed 40 wpm on 10 fast finger
on 9th may…I crossed 50 wpm that too with 98% accuracy on monkeytype
on 18 may I reached 55 wpm on 10 fast finger
On 21 may,I reached 62 wpm on 10 fast finger.
After crossing 60,I was stuck at this speed for a while.
In fact at times I was not even able to cross 55 wpm.
I searched a lot and saw a lot of videos on how I can improve further but couldnt do much.
I thought thats it…no further improvement.
But I was happy that I came thos far from 16 wpm to 60 wpm. and kept practicing daily with no more expectation for 5-10 minutes a day sometimes more.
on 12 june,I reached 63 wpm on 10 fast finger.
Although I just wanted to get consistently above 60… i could crack my own personal best. so felt that hype again and started working hard for more improvement.
after a lot of hustle on all the websites i know…finally i am at 65 wpm
Finally on 28 june,I did a test on monkey type with 15 seconds timer
Currently My most favourite typing website is monkey type…Only reason is there are so many customisations like you can
1.choose timer…15,30,60,120 seconds
2.Choose font size
3.Gives you raw speed(Speed you had on that particular point of time in time you chose e.g.19 th second speed,48th second speed..u just have to click on the graph to get it.)
and a lot of other customizations is well on what you want to type quote,custom,with timer and all.
Finally…Keyboard I am using right now and fallen in love with is ‘logitech k 380‘…its really silent. It has definite role in increasing my typing speed.
